🐾 How to Spot a Serious Puppy Buyer (and Avoid Scams)
Why I’m sharing this: Today I came this close to getting caught in a scam. The buyer disappeared the moment I mentioned a deposit agreement—classic red flag. It reminded me how important it is to stay vigilant and protect our puppies, our time, and our hearts. So I put together this guide to help fellow breeders spot serious buyers and avoid the traps. Stay safe out there, friends 🐾💛

🐾 How to Spot a Serious Puppy Buyer (and Avoid Scams)
At Elite Family Poodle, we believe in transparency, trust, and gentle protection—for our puppies and our people. If you’re a breeder or seller, here’s a guide to help you recognize serious buyers and gracefully sidestep scams.
✅ Signs of a Serious Buyer
• Shares their full name and email without hesitation
• Asks thoughtful questions about the puppy’s health, temperament, or care
• Welcomes a deposit agreement and reads it carefully
• Sends the deposit promptly using the agreed method (e.g., Zelle)
• Communicates clearly and respectfully
🚩 Red Flags to Watch For
• Disappears when you mention a formal agreement
• Pushes for quick payment without signing anything
• Sends fake screenshots or claims “the money is on the way”
• Avoids sharing basic contact info
• Tries to rush or guilt you into holding a puppy
🛡️ How We Protect Our Puppies (and You)
• We require a signed deposit agreement before accepting any payment
• Deposits are non-refundable if the buyer cancels, misses deadlines, or changes their mind
• Deposits are refundable only if the puppy is no longer available due to health concerns or unforeseen circumstances on our end
• We accept deposits via Zelle only, using verified contact details
• Ownership transfers only after full payment is received
💬 A Gentle Reminder
If someone disappears the moment you mention paperwork, consider it a blessing. You deserve buyers who honor your time, your puppies, and your process.
